Sage Café is a welcoming and comfortable casual lunch café in the heart of historic downtown Carlisle. What first began as a dream in 2019 by Taryn Padlo is now a beautiful space for all to enjoy. Located at 22 West Pomfret Street in Carlisle, PA, Sage Café is the freshly renovated former Piatto restaurant space.
In the spring, summer, and fall months, we welcome you to join us in our outdoor spaces and take in the beautiful scenery of the city. We offer patio dining and sidewalk seating, perfect for enjoying the fresh air and lovely afternoon sunshine.
Taryn Padlo is the proud owner of Sage Cafe. As a woman entrepreneur, Taryn takes pride in owning and managing a thriving business that serves her community. Her passion for the food industry has led her to own other successful restaurants in the past, but Sage Cafe is where she feels most at home.
Taryn's three daughters also share her love for food and hospitality, and they can often be found helping out at Sage Cafe. Family is important to Taryn, and she strives to make Sage Cafe feel like a home away from home for her customers. Her aim is to create a relaxing and comforting atmosphere where people can gather with friends and family.
Taryn is also a devoted dog lover and a strong advocate for dog rescues. Her dog, Josie, is a regular at Sage Cafe and is loved by both Taryn and her staff. Taryn believes in giving back to her community, and inside and outside of work, she supports dog rescues with our "Our Dog of Walls."
Taryn understands the importance of community support and involvement. She aims to create a space that is unique and welcoming to everyone who walks through the doors of Sage Cafe. Whether you're stopping in for a cup of coffee, a quick bite to eat, or a relaxing meal with friends, Taryn and her team at Sage Cafe will make sure you feel at home.
Meet our chef...
Mr. Russell Freeman has been involved with the food business for over thirty years. Originally from Dallas, Texas, his early times there formed a bond with all things “Southwestern” and subsequently, have played a major role in his culinary endeavors.
His travels have taken him to 47 states and 6 countries further influencing his culinary background with Italian, French, Asian, Mexican and “Rustic Country Fare” cuisines.
Over a span of 17 years, he has owned and operated 2 award-winning restaurants in the Harrisburg area. The “Original” Cafe on Market, coupled with the latest, New Market Bistro, both of which were located in Camp Hill, PA.
Learning first hand from seasoned professionals, coupled with his extensive travels and a burning desire to learn he has amassed a colorful array of spectacular dishes and he still loves to teach people how to enjoy cooking from “the heart”.
He continues to use and promote fresh, local and sustainably raised meats, seafood and produce having been one of the first area establishments to do so.
He enjoys instructing and has taught cooking classes, performed live demonstrations on television, given lectures, educated people on the art of cooking, Sauté, grilling techniques, knife skills, wine tasting & pairing, along with etiquette for young business professionals.
He has served on several boards promoting business and the restaurant industry and is a past member of the prestigious Caterina de Medici Gastronomic Society based in Philadelphia, PA.
Most recently “Russ” has been the head Chef and creator here at Sage Cafe!
